Exercising is widely known for shaping body figure and at the same time, keeping a body healthy. Sweating is deemed as an effective way to remove toxins from our bodies and we achieve that through exercising. Not only does it keep you fit, but it is also long proven to be an effective alternative as a remedy to a number health issues such as anxiety, insomnia, back pain, hot flashes, obesity and a lot more. Even recent studies conducted had findings that exercising can help with certain serious illness such as cancer and ADHD to name a few.

Indeed, exercising is very beneficial. But sometimes when you’re working out, you may find that your body is responding in some odd unusual ways. To help you assess yourself in ways to prevent or cure these common side effects in exercising, we have rounded up a list of these effects and their corresponding immediate remedies.

These remedies that we’re about to discuss are usually foods with certain properties that can help alleviate it so that you can continue your work-out and achieve your goal to be fit and healthy.

One of the most common side effects you’ll probably have when exercising is cramps, an exercise-induced spasm. These painful cramps happen when there is an inadequate blood supply to your body when you’re exercising. This happens most especially when you’re doing intense routines.

To avoid an inopportune charley horse, try snacking on a banana which is a good source of potassium. Potassium channels control muscle contraction, so a good amount of potassium can prevent any imbalance that could cause your muscle to cram up.

While other people notice that their breathing clears up when they exercise, some others do complain about having a runny nose. “Exercise stimulates the part of your nervous system that controls the secretion of your body’s glands—including the mucus glands in your nose,” explains William Reisacher, MD, director of the Allergy Center at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

This runny sensation might also be a symptom for having an Exercise-Induced Rhinitis. To help you prevent this, a diet which consists of Omega-3 fatty acids and Rosmaniric Acid is suggested. Omega-3 fatty acids and Rosmaniric acid can reduce the inflammation that causes the runny sensation. Omega-3 can be obtained by eating foods such as flaxseeds, walnuts, soybeans and cold water fish like salmon cod and halibut. On the other hand, rosmaniric acid is found in many culinary herbs such as oregano, lemon balm, sage, marjoram, peppermint thyme and rosemary.

Other people sometimes shows the development of asthma symptoms immediately after exercise. They might be experiencing the so-called Exercise-induce asthma (EIA). To prevent the occurrence of it, an addition of Rhodiola Rosea might be necessary. Rhodiola Rosea has been found to have exercise benefits due to its ability to help your body adapt to physical, chemical, and environmental stress, hence the term for it as an “adaptogen”. This will be very helpful to prevent EIA to be triggered.

Another common side effect of exercise is the muscle soreness. You may experience this one to two days after exercise, termed as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. This often occurs when you start a new exercise routine, change it, or returning to exercise after a period of inactivity. The damaged muscles, usually caused by the forceful contraction movements, release chemical irritants that triggers the mild inflammation, which awakens your pain receptors.

To cure these muscle soreness, an intake of foods with natural anti-inflammatory substance is recommended. This can be obtained through the consumption of ginger, a natural pain reliever with a long history of medicinal uses, which can reduce the pain by about 24%. Another one is the spice turmeric which contains curcumin that is effective in relieving pain, increasing mobility, and reducing inflammation. Cherries can also serve as a potent pain reliever, which can also help in reducing your uric acid level.

These foods would help you alleviate those side effects but always remember that a proper discipline while working out is always the most important. Don’t push yourself too hard, and take supplementary vitamins such as vitamin C, a very potent antioxidant.

You know you wanted to achieve the perfect shape beyond a good health that’s why you’re exercising. But you should also understand that you have to strike a balance in doing your work-out right to make your goals closer to reality.
